Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Laborer to join our team at Doman Building Materials Group Ltd. as a Wood Processing Specialist. This is a full-time position that requires a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various tasks in the post, rail, and chipping operations, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Conduct regular housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Operate machinery and equipment, including cutting, measuring, and sorting wood products.
  • Inspect and measure wood pieces to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Set equipment controls to meet cutting specifications and inspect wood products for imperfections.
  • Count, sort, and stack finished wood pieces, and dispose of trash and waste materials as required.
Requirements
  • Ability to accurately count and identify various lumber products.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and ability to maintain concentration and focus for long periods.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery and lift up to 50 pounds or 23 kilograms.
  • Bending, lifting, and reaching during the course of a shift.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must be able to wear hand, eye, and ear protection as required.
  • Experience working in wood processing or lumber yards is desirable.
  • Must have own steel-toed boots.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to tolerate working in outdoor conditions year-round.
  • Work site will be hot in the summer and can be extremely cold during the winter.
  • Workers will need strength and stamina to stand, bend, and lift on a daily basis.
  • Work site can often be noisy and dusty.
  • May work around machinery with blades or other hazards.
Education and Benefits
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Full-time position with 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday.
  • $23/hour.
  • Must be flexible to accommodate operational and scheduling requirements.
  • Occasional overtime and/or weekend work may be required.
Work Location
  • Lumberton, BC, is located southwest of Cranbrook (approximately 10 to 15-minute drive from Cranbrook).
  • Candidates will need their own transportation to travel to and from the work site.
