Role Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Sustainability, the Manager of Sustainability and Compliance will lead the formulation and execution of sustainability and environmental compliance initiatives, aligning with the institution's strategic objectives. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including administration, faculty, students, and community partners, to foster a culture of sustainability throughout the college's operations and community engagement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the institution's Sustainability Plan in alignment with the college's strategic priorities.
- Identify and promote opportunities for campus-wide engagement in sustainability initiatives, grounded in principles of equity and inclusion.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create and execute sustainability programs.
- Manage the creation of resources to assist the college community in adopting sustainability best practices.
- Work with capital projects teams on sustainability-related initiatives.
- Integrate sustainability into various operational processes across departments.
- Oversee sustainability reporting and communications, ensuring compliance with governmental requirements.
- Research and recommend innovative sustainability practices and trends.
- Assist in budget planning and forecasting for sustainability initiatives.
- Deliver impactful programs in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop standards and policies for sustainability initiatives.
- Represent the college in provincial and national sustainability organizations.
- Plan and execute sustainability events and manage communications.
- Engage with academic divisions to enhance student involvement in sustainability initiatives.
- Support faculty in integrating sustainable learning outcomes into curricula.
- Supervise and mentor staff and students in the Office of Sustainability.
- Stay informed on regulations affecting sustainability practices and provide recommendations.
- Manage compliance with governmental sustainability regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a four-year degree in a relevant field such as Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related disciplines.
- A Master's degree is preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED) are advantageous.
- At least five years of progressive management experience in sustainability and compliance within large organizations.
- Proven experience in leading cross-functional projects and managing change.
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks is beneficial.
