Department: Dentistry and Oral Surgery

Overview
The Dentistry and Oral Surgery department is seeking a skilled Registered Veterinary Technologist to become a vital member of our team at VCA. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional specialist care to our patients, clients, and referring veterinarians. This position involves direct collaboration with a Board Certified Specialist in Dentistry & Oral Surgery.
Our team is recognized as a leading center for oral and maxillofacial trauma in southern Alberta, frequently working alongside the Critical Care and Emergency Service to ensure optimal patient care. We offer a range of specialist referral dentistry services, including routine and complex extractions, endodontics, and orthodontics. Additionally, our department collaborates closely with the Oncology Team to deliver comprehensive care for cancer patients, addressing conditions such as salivary gland disease and advanced imaging in the head and neck.
Key Responsibilities
- Administering and monitoring general anesthesia, with support from a dedicated anesthesiologist.
- Assisting with patient treatment processes, including initiating client appointments and managing blood sample collection.
- Maintaining accurate and timely patient records.
- Familiarity with dental radiography and dental hygiene procedures is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Providing pre- and post-operative assistance.
- Engaging in general housekeeping duties.
- Supporting student training and offering practicum opportunities.
- Participating in career fairs as needed.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited veterinary program (Veterinary Technology Diploma, Veterinary Technician Diploma, or Animal Health Technology Diploma).
- VTNE certification or eligibility.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a dental department or general practice with relevant dental procedures.
- Eligibility for registration with AAAHT in Alberta.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to adapt to varying situations and procedures with professionalism and empathy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Work Schedule
- A balanced schedule of 4 days on and 4 days off, including a combination of 4-hour shifts from Monday to Thursday.
- All RVTs are expected to participate in on-call rotations for weekend and evening emergency coverage.
