Job Overview

Reporting to the Director of Fixed Income Investments, the Senior Portfolio Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing credit risk management for the pension plan's corporate bond portfolios. This senior investment position will entail leading credit approvals, as well as monitoring and providing recommendations for both purchasing and selling opportunities. The role will also require the preparation of internal reports and monitoring documents.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze company financial statements, investment research reports, business models, management teams, and security structures to inform recommendations.

2. Stay informed about market opportunities, trends, and ideas related to corporate credit for individual corporate entities and sector components. Maintain a strong awareness of market cycles and sector timing that can lead to investment opportunities.

3. Conduct thorough due diligence on public fixed income corporate entities, including detailed financial analysis and risk/return assessments. Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive credit research documentation for approved credit entities and monitor ongoing situations.

4. Evaluate infrastructure transactions to identify significant risk factors and return considerations.

5. Prepare fixed income investment reports and presentations for the pension committee and other relevant committees. Attend and present at these committee meetings as necessary.

Continued Responsibilities

6. Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with senior management of public corporations, personnel from rating agencies, and investment dealers.

7. Monitor and evaluate the credit performance of recommendations related to names and sectors. Utilize portfolio management systems such as Bloomberg, Statpro, and other investment platforms as needed.

8. Assess corporate structures, public disclosure documents, and business models for investment recommendations. Review detailed disclosures on structured products, asset-backed securities, and other related structures for risk evaluation and return considerations.

9. Maintain a network of internal and external contacts to regularly benchmark and stay updated on future trends and developments related to government standards, industry practices, legislation, guidelines, new technologies, and programs pertinent to managing the pension fund.

Qualifications

• A university degree, preferably in Business or Finance; additional qualifications such as an MBA, CFA, or CA are advantageous.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in one or a combination of the following areas: investment research, buy-side or sell-side experience, rating agency experience, or experience in private and public infrastructure.
