Job Title: Commissioning Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Technologist to join our team at Powell Canada Inc. As a Commissioning Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient installation, testing, and commissioning of our electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Powell's current safety and quality standards
  • Complete all site documentation in a timely manner, including weekly time sheets, signed service and repair orders, materials used, and report writing
  • Provide regular and clear communication regarding work schedule to Field Operations Scheduler and District Service Manager
  • Maintain flexible work hours, including overtime and periodic weekend support
  • Be available to travel up to 85% of the year
  • Comply with Powell's standard operating procedures, documentation processes, safety processes, and protocols
  • Coordinate with Powell Project management, customers, vendors, and labor support in a professional and customer-centric manner
  • Able to work in different roles from supporting the Manufacturing Department within-house fabrication to overseeing small crews on installation projects
  • Switchgear and PCR installations
  • DC/AC Switchgear
  • Perform performance testing on Powell equipment and components, including insulation testing (megger testing), Ductor, Hi Potential testing, torque tests, and mechanical/functional testing
  • Perform regular inspections of any issued vehicle or calibrated equipment/tools
  • Provide support to services manufacturing group, which may consist of construction, installation, wiring, and testing
  • Duties will include local and domestic travel, PCR installation, switchgear installation, PowlVac breakers, trouble shooting, testing, and repair of mentioned items
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Field service technicians are required to have 8 years as a shop and/or field electrical/breaker technician
  • Exhibit basic knowledge of Electrical Industry manufacturing standards, including sections of ANSI IEEE C37 applicable to the design and manufacture of breakers and switchgear
  • Basic knowledge of the following: ANSI IEEE device function numbers; ampacities of electrical conductors in switchgear applications
  • Basic knowledge of electrical air and surface creepage clearance requirements
  • Basic knowledge in writing accurate and complete test reports, project summaries, and the ability to explain basic anomalies found on a given project
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic familiarity with contactor and circuit breaker schematics
  • Basic understanding of Hi Potential testing
  • Basic understanding of low resistance testing
  • Basic working knowledge of mechanical and electrical functional testing of circuit breakers and electrical switchgear
  • NICET Level 1 certification
  • HUET/Offshore Survival Training (will be provided if the candidate is not currently certified)
  • NFPA 70E Trained (preferred/training can be provided)
  • OSHA 10/30 Trained (preferred/training can be provided)
Working and Environmental Conditions:

The Field Service Technician typically performs duties in an industrial environment. This position requires services both locally and across the Continental US.   • Medium physical effort (lifting/moving up to 50 pounds)
  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body and be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time
  • Work at heights greater than 10'
  • Work on ladders of all types
  • Work on scissors and bucket lifts (on occasion)

In addition, employees will be required to complete and pass Company and Customer required drug screening, background, and employment verification checks, maintaining eligibility throughout employment.
