AECOM's Ontario Ecology team is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Consulting Arborist. This position is essential for enhancing our current operations and expanding our capabilities to tackle diverse and engaging projects throughout the province.
The ideal candidate will possess over 4 years of experience in arboricultural consulting, demonstrating a proactive attitude and a passion for working on a variety of assignments. Strong communication skills and a dedication to delivering exceptional results are critical. Candidates should have a solid foundation in performing tree inventories and health evaluations, preparing arborist reports, and developing tree preservation strategies. Experience with tree removal and injury permit applications is also necessary. A thorough understanding of the identification of woody plant species, including both native and non-native varieties found in natural settings, as well as ornamental and urban trees, is required.
Successful applicants will have experience in planning, coordinating, and executing fieldwork, along with the ability to analyze data and compile reports. Essential qualities include strong organizational and leadership skills, along with the capacity to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment.
Willingness to travel for fieldwork across various regions is a must.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a field team to conduct data collection and investigations related to tree inventories in both urban and remote locations.
- Manage the arboricultural aspects of projects, including coordination with project managers and other disciplines, budget tracking, fieldwork organization, and reporting.
- Prepare comprehensive tree inventory and preservation documentation.
- Conduct data entry and produce various reports.
- Comply with AECOM's Health and Safety Protocols.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in arboricultural consulting, supported by a degree or diploma in environmental science or biology from an accredited institution.
- ISA Arborist Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 6 years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with tree by-laws and policies applicable in southern and central Ontario.
- Strong technical skills in identifying flora specific to southern and central Ontario, with the ability to utilize dichotomous keys.
- Proven experience conducting fieldwork in the region.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Capability to function effectively in both field and office settings.
- Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Proficient in using mobile devices, laptops, tablets, and other technical tools.
