Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Electronic Arts Full time

At Electronic Arts, we are a diverse collective of creators, innovators, and technologists dedicated to crafting exceptional gaming experiences. We believe that extraordinary games stem from teams as varied as the players and communities we engage with.

SEED, a groundbreaking division within Electronic Arts, merges creativity with applied research to explore and shape the future of interactive entertainment.

Our mission at EA is to inspire innovation for our games and players through exploration, research, and prototypes. We collaborate with game teams and industry partners, sharing our findings with both the industry and the public. Our research encompasses bringing digital characters to life, leveraging machine learning for game AI and content creation, and developing cutting-edge real-time graphics and physics techniques.

We are in search of a Graphics Programming Specialist—a rendering engineer with extensive applied research experience in rendering techniques and technologies—to contribute to the evolution of real-time graphics and deliver outstanding experiences for our players.

You possess a talent for devising innovative solutions to intricate real-time rendering challenges while maintaining a balance between quality and performance. You are well-versed in the pertinent research areas of real-time graphics and understand the necessary advancements to create captivating game worlds or convincingly realistic digital humans. Perhaps you have presented at industry conferences, published research papers, or contributed to notable games.

This role offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement from one of our EA offices, allowing for remote work opportunities. You will report to the leader of our rendering research vector.

As a Graphics Programming Specialist at SEED, your responsibilities will include:

  • Introducing new concepts, engaging in discussions, and implementing solutions to tackle some of the most challenging video game rendering issues, thereby creating unique advantages for EA.
  • Investigating novel rendering technologies and their applications within game development processes.
  • Creating demonstrations that highlight innovative uses of rendering techniques.
  • Contributing to the comprehensive delivery of new rendering technologies, transitioning from research and development to practical applications in collaboration with game teams and central technology groups.
  • Working alongside other developers at SEED on projects where your specialized knowledge will enhance various initiatives that intersect multiple domains.
  • Partnering with game teams and central technology groups to better understand their needs and provide expertise in overlapping areas.
  • Sharing your findings through publications, open-source contributions, and presentations at conferences.

As a team committed to diversity and shared objectives, we empower each member of SEED with autonomy and genuine influence. We seek an inquisitive and open-minded individual who thrives on exploring new ideas, investigating them, and adapting their applications to gaming. You should be passionate, creative, communicative, and deeply invested in the field of game development.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in computer science or a related discipline.
  • Experience in PC or console game programming, with a track record of contributing to AAA titles or significant game engines.
  • Advanced knowledge of real-time rendering (lighting, shading, geometry) and game development.
  • In-depth understanding of PC and console hardware, with experience in researching and optimizing for various platforms, focusing on concurrency, memory, and performance.
  • Familiarity with game engines.
  • A collaborative spirit, eager to work with researchers, engineers, artists, and designers.
  • Willingness to travel for conferences and engage with teams across EA studios.
  • A genuine passion for video games.
  • Optionally, you may have publications, presentations, or related works in rendering or a relevant field.

If you aspire to collaborate with some of the most talented individuals in the industry, SEED is the place for you.
