Overview:
The Manager of Global Accounting Policies & Procedures plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of accounting standards for the organization. This position is pivotal in analyzing the implications of accounting regulations and proposed modifications, addressing intricate accounting challenges, and offering expert guidance on specialized transactions as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that critical departments are informed and adequately prepared for the effects of new and evolving accounting standards.
- Assist in the direct application of these new standards, investigate issues related to specific strategies or transactions, and propose alternatives and compliance recommendations.
- Collaborate with various departments to clarify roles and responsibilities in executing the requirements of new accounting standards.
- Keep senior management informed about the accounting implications of new and revised IFRS standards.
- Identify and investigate issues, evaluate areas of flexibility, and make recommendations aligned with the organization's priorities.
- Proposed recommendations should take into account the overall impact on the organization and its business lines, potentially influencing business practices.
- Review and advise on the appropriate accounting treatment for specialized proposed transactions.
- Conduct thorough analyses of these transactions, providing well-documented summaries of relevant terms, accounting options, and a rationale for recommendations.
- Due to the urgent nature of pending transactions, timely delivery of analyses is expected.
- Maintain and refresh the accounting monograph (i.e., IFRS policies) and implementation guidelines promptly, including user training and implications of new guidelines.
- Actively engage in the formulation and interpretation of new and proposed accounting standards, including disclosures in financial statements and MD&A. This may involve responding to new standards issued by IASB, FASB, and regulators.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
- Ability to implement complex accounting requirements across assigned business lines.
- Strong financial acumen coupled with analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy while working under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships across cross-functional teams.
- A collaborative team player willing to undertake additional projects to achieve collective objectives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn various reporting tools for data extraction and presentation.
