We are in search of a committed Hardware Reliability Specialist to focus on satellite user terminal and landing station technologies for the Telesat Lightspeed constellation. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in ensuring the reliability and performance of our satellite user terminal and landing station hardware through comprehensive testing, analysis, and ongoing improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct extensive reliability testing and analysis of satellite user terminal and landing station hardware components and systems.
  • Establish requirements for Mean Time Before Failure at the component level to achieve the desired reliability at the system level according to product definitions.
  • Design and implement reliability test plans, encompassing environmental stress testing, accelerated life testing, and failure mode analysis (FMA).
  • Work closely with design engineers to identify potential reliability challenges and apply design enhancements based on testing outcomes.
  • Perform statistical evaluations of test data to assess product reliability, forecast failures, and suggest improvements.
  • Create comprehensive test reports and communicate findings to stakeholders, offering clear recommendations for product enhancements.
  • Engage actively in design reviews to ensure that reliability standards are met and that Design For Excellence (DfX) principles are integrated, including Design for Manufacturability, Design for Cost/Procurement, Design for Assembly, and Design for Testability.
  • Assess supplier components and materials for reliability compliance and performance suitability, providing requirements for field replacement and repair strategies.
  • Define and implement reliability metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track product reliability throughout its lifecycle.
  • Stay informed about industry standards and best practices concerning hardware reliability testing and analysis.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Over 10 years of experience in hardware reliability engineering, ideally within the satellite communication or aerospace sectors.
  • Expertise in reliability testing methodologies such as HALT, HASS, FMEA, and environmental testing; knowledge of terminal regulatory and homologation processes is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 or DO-160 standards is a plus.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience in statistical analysis tools for reliability evaluation.
  • Experience with reliability prediction software (e.g., ReliaSoft, Relex, Windchill) is beneficial.
  • Comprehensive understanding of satellite user terminal hardware architecture and components.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communication abilities, capable of conveying technical information clearly and succinctly.
  • Proven capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
DECISION MAKING & SUPERVISION:
  • This position does not have direct reports but involves collaboration with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This role supports a hybrid work environment.
  • Working conditions are generally comfortable and typical of an office setting.
  • International travel may be required.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
