Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Prepared Foods Department Supervisor to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our Prepared Foods team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department, including scheduling and supervising team members, maintaining a clean and organized store environment, and ensuring exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Prepared Foods team members to ensure efficient and effective department operations.
  • Work closely with the Prepared Foods Trainer to develop and implement training programs that promote a high-performance team and minimize turnover.
  • Assist in the training of new team members, utilizing learning checklists and training materials to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized store environment, including keeping all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated.
  • Open and close the department according to established procedures, ensuring that all necessary tasks are completed and that the department is ready for business.
  • Ensure that all team members receive necessary breaks and that the department is staffed appropriately to meet customer needs.
  • Communicate team concerns to the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader, working together to resolve issues and improve department performance.
  • Set and achieve the highest standards of retail execution, ensuring that the Prepared Foods department is a model for excellence within the store.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale among team members.
  • Maintain awareness of customer flows and needs, directing team members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers, and responding promptly to customer needs and questions.
  • Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel team members to sustain a high-performance team and minimize turnover.
  • Provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations, helping team members to grow and develop in their roles.
  • Consistently communicate and model Whole Foods Market's vision and goals, inspiring team members to strive for excellence in all aspects of their work.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of Prepared Foods team procedures and policies.
  • Strong demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers.
  • Capable of teaching others in a positive and constructive manner, with a strong focus on developing and mentoring team members.
  • Product knowledge, with the ability to stay up-to-date on new products and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures, with the ability to ensure compliance and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate, with a strong focus on achieving business objectives.
  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications, with the ability to adapt to new technology and systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ months retail experience, with a focus on food service or customer-facing roles.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • May require use of ladders.
