We are a leading manufacturer of high-quality custom wood furniture, and we are seeking a skilled and experienced Custom Wood Furniture Maker to join our team.

Job Summary

The Custom Wood Furniture Maker will be responsible for creating custom wood furniture pieces, from design to completion. This is a permanent, full-time position, working 30 hours per week. The ideal candidate will have a secondary (high) school graduation certificate and at least 7 months to less than 1 year of experience in woodworking or a related field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Creation
    • Study plans, specifications, or drawings of articles to be made
    • Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete units and reinforce joints
    • Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain, or polish to finished products; prepare and apply laminated plastics
    • Apply varnish, veneer, stain, or polish to finished products
  • Maintenance and Safety
    • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Estimation and Repair
    • Estimate costs and materials
    • Repair or restyle wooden furniture, fixtures, and related products
  • Accessibility and Inclusion
    • Provide physical accessibility accommodations (e.g., ramps, elevators)
    • Provide visual accessibility accommodations (e.g., braille, screen readers)
    • Provide auditory accessibility accommodations (e.g., transcription software, teletypewriters)
    • Participate in government or community programs that support persons with disabilities
    • Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for persons with disabilities
    • Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for persons with disabilities
    • Apply accessible and inclusive recruitment policies that accommodate persons with disabilities
  • Support for Newcomers and Refugees
    • Participate in government or community programs that support newcomers and/or refugees
    • Assist with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and/or refugees (e.g., housing, transportation, storage, childcare, winter clothing)
    • Support social and labor market integration of newcomers and/or refugees (e.g., facilitating access to community resources, language training, skills training)
    • Recruit newcomers and/or refugees who were displaced by a conflict or natural disaster
    • Support newcomers and/or refugees with foreign credential recognition
    • Offer mentorship programs that pair newcomers and/or refugees with experienced employees
    • Provide diversity and cross-cultural training to create a welcoming work environment for newcomers and/or refugees
  • Support for Youths
    • Participate in government or community programs that support youth employment
    • Offer on-the-job training tailored to youth
    • Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for youth
    • Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for youth
  • Support for Veterans
    • Participate in government or community programs that support Veterans
    • Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for Veterans
    • Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for Veterans
    • Recruit Veterans and other candidates with military experience through targeted hiring initiatives
    • Assist with immediate transition needs of Veterans (e.g., relocation, housing)
    • Offer workshops, counseling services, or other resources to help Veterans navigate their transition into the civilian workforce
    • Support Veterans in translating their military skills and experience into the language of the civilian job market
    • Offer flexible onboarding options to allow Veterans to gradually adapt to the civilian workplace
  • Support for Indigenous People
    • Participate in government or community programs that support Indigenous people
    • Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers
    • Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, Indigenous-owned businesses, and organizations
    • Provide cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers
    • Facilitate access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers
  • Support for Mature Workers
    • Participate in government or community programs that support mature workers
    • Apply hiring policies that discourage age discrimination
    • Provide staff with awareness training to create a welcoming work environment for mature workers
    • Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for mature workers
