We are seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Programmer to join our team at LifeLabs. As a key member of our Genetics Lab, you will design, implement, and test programs, workflows, and solutions for our Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Your expertise in bioinformatics and software development will enable you to provide programming solutions for systems integration and automation of clinical diagnostic data, as well as build pipelines for the analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.
Key Responsibilities- Implement and Manage LIMS: Design, implement, and test programs, workflows, and solutions for our LIMS, ensuring seamless data management and workflow in clinical specimen acquisition.
- NGS Data Analysis: Handle NGS data acquisition, analysis, and reporting processes, and develop pipelines for these processes to support our Genetics Lab.
- Software Development: Using Python, design and implement code to support the LIMS, bioinformatics pipelines, and analytical processes.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Design and execute test plans on applications, record, verify, and document results to ensure high-quality software development.
- Database Management: Manage multiple databases using PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and other databases to support our Genetics Lab applications.
- Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate activities with internal IT teams, external partners, and suppliers to implement, interface, and configure Genetics Lab applications and database development, testing, and operations.
- Server Administration: Administer and maintain servers running Linux and Windows to support our Genetics Lab applications.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Provide subject matter expertise in areas of database, tuning, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, development, support, documentation of standards and procedures for the administration and maintenance of all supported environments.
- Support to Genetics Lab: Support our internal lab group by providing expertise in the LIMS workflows and bioinformatics applications in use at LifeLabs Genetics.
- Education: Master's Degree in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Software Engineering, or a related field. A bachelor's degree with relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience: 1-3 years of coding experience, with a preference for candidates with experience in bioinformatics. Minimum 2 years' experience in Python is preferred.
- Skills: Excellent understanding of the full IT solution development life cycle (SDLC), and proven experience participating in the design, development, and implementation of complete IT business solutions. Strong working knowledge of software engineering practices, and academic or working experience with molecular techniques, including PCR and DNA sequencing, NGS experience preferred.
