Department/Unit Overview:
The 4J Surgical Spine Unit is a specialized 16-bed facility providing acute care for patients undergoing spinal surgeries. We serve a broad regional area, offering expert interventions and care.
Our team comprises a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including RNs, RPNs, and various specialists, who collaborate to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care. As part of an academic institution, we engage in ongoing research and quality improvement initiatives.
Position Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive nursing services to pre-operative and post-operative surgical patients, including IV therapy, pain management, and wound care.
- Responsible for nursing assessments, care plan formulation, goal-oriented interventions, patient and family education, and discharge planning.
- Utilize clinical judgment to make timely decisions and evaluate care outcomes.
- Serve as a mentor and support for students and new staff.
- Commit to continuous professional development and improvement.
- Participate in program planning and quality enhancement initiatives.
Key Qualifications:
- Previous experience in surgical settings or a strong interest in Neurosciences is preferred.
- Current registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body is required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is mandatory.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-performance, inter-professional team environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Neuroscience Nursing Certificate is an asset, or a commitment to obtain within one year of employment.
- A solid work and attendance record is essential.
