Role Overview: The Portfolio Manager (PM) plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing Vancity's liquid investment portfolio, ensuring that returns meet or exceed established benchmarks while adhering to Vancity's ESG/Impact and risk frameworks. The PM is tasked with formulating strategic or tactical portfolio allocation targets and rebalancing portfolios based on economic and financial market trends, liquidity conditions, internal balance sheet objectives, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management:
- Design and execute investment strategies aligned with the liquidity requirements and risk tolerance of the organization.
- Oversee Vancity's liquid investment portfolio management strategy to achieve returns that meet or surpass established benchmarks while complying with Vancity's ESG/Impact and risk frameworks.
- Establish strategic or tactical portfolio allocation targets and adjust portfolios considering economic conditions, financial market trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain an approved investment and issuer/security universe for the Treasury investment portfolio.
Communication:
- Prepare and deliver investment proposals, performance reports, and risk assessments to senior management and investment committees.
- Provide daily summaries of economic data releases and their implications for capital markets.
- Facilitate regular and timely portfolio reporting to enable proactive monitoring of investment strategies and effective decision-making processes.
Liquidity Management:
- Ensure liquidity adequacy of the investment portfolio in line with Vancity's policies and regulatory requirements, maintaining readiness during stressed periods.
- Stay informed about market trends, economic developments, and regulatory changes impacting liquidity management.
Market and Relationship Management:
- Monitor market conditions to ensure proactive portfolio management and necessary strategy adjustments.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with counterparties, dealer banks, and other external organizations to effectively manage the Treasury portfolio.
- Engage with counterparties and dealer banks to facilitate efficient price discovery and optimize trade execution.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead daily operations and communications related to investment portfolio management, engaging with key stakeholders such as reporting committees and regulators.
- Collaborate with Treasury operations for real-time cash management and funding transactions in alignment with Vancity's liquidity needs.
- Work with other departments to enhance investment management and reporting processes, increasing visibility into portfolio activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the Financial Services industry, including fixed income trade execution and portfolio management.
- Completion of CFA designation or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of Capital Markets, Trading, Bond and fixed-income investment portfolio management, and Liquidity management.
- Proficiency in Excel, Bloomberg, and various financial market systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $102,200 to $153,200, with offers likely to be around the mid-point of $127,700. The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals demonstrating consistent strong performance and a high level of expertise.
