About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at The Royal Mental Health Centre. As a key member of our interdisciplinary treatment team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals with psychiatric and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide supportive nursing care that is tailored to the unique needs and goals of each patient.
  • Assess patients' needs and develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary team.
  • Administer medications and perform treatments within the scope of your practice, adhering to applicable regulations and standards.
  • Document accurate reports of patient care, including data collection, interpretation, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses to effectively manage rapidly changing situations and establish effective therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and staff.
  • Identify patient needs and respond promptly and appropriately.
  • Maximize patients' function, participation, and control in their recovery.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of program policies, procedures, applicable legislation, and mental health best practices.
  • Comply with The Royal's Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination-Free Workplace policy and meet College of Nurses of Ontario Standards for RPNs.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Minimum of two years recent experience with adults with psychiatric/mental health illness preferred.
  • Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
  • Ability to perform full Registered Practical Nursing functions on all units at BMHC.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • WHMIS and Fire training update in the preceding 12 months.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decision Act.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check for vulnerable sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Safety and Security in the Workplace Training (candidate must agree to complete prior to start date if this qualification is not met).
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression. Bilingual is an asset.
