Public Works Maintenance Specialist

The City of Penticton is a dynamic and forward-thinking waterfront municipality dedicated to sustainability, community engagement, and economic growth. Our mission is to provide exceptional services to our residents, businesses, and visitors through effective governance and collaboration.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled individual for the full-time permanent role of Works Maintenance III (E.O.II) within our Public Works Department. This department plays a crucial role in ensuring community safety by overseeing road maintenance, park management, cemetery upkeep, waste collection, recycling services, and storm-water drainage to mitigate flooding risks. Additionally, the department is responsible for managing the municipal fleet of vehicles.
The Works Maintenance III (E.O.II) position reports directly to the Roads and Drainage Supervisor and involves providing skilled labor support to various work crews. Responsibilities include operating a range of light equipment and hand tools as assigned. This role may also involve restorative tasks aimed at maintaining City properties, including waste clean-up and encampment remediation, with additional training provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled Public Works tasks, including assisting work crews, managing the street crack and crevice weed control program, conducting sidewalk inspections, and overseeing water service inspections.
- Operate various equipment such as single axle dump trucks, pickup trucks, aerial bucket trucks, mobile crane trucks, and small hand tools.
- Execute snow removal and other Public Works duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of Secondary School or equivalent.
- Valid B.C. Driver's Licence, minimum Class 5 with Air Brake Endorsement (Class 3 preferred).
- Valid Traffic Control Person Certification.
- Valid Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Applicator Certificates.
- Forklift Certification is considered an asset.
- Additional workplace certifications such as WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, and Fall Arrest are preferred.
Work Schedule:
Thursday to Monday
- Spring (May 1st to September 29th): 5:00 am to 1:30 pm
- Winter (October 1st to April 30th): 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
