ROLE OVERVIEW:

Positioned at the forefront of our R&D initiatives, the Horticulture Scientist will spearhead the biological aspects of various projects aimed at developing a wide array of innovative genetics and products for our clientele. This role encompasses participation in research endeavors that involve cultivating plants in regulated settings, focusing on new genetic varieties, lighting techniques, nutritional inputs, substrates, and other essential factors. Additionally, the research will explore the impact of cultural practices on plant development, including irrigation strategies, plant density, temperature control, CO2 enrichment, and more. The Horticulture Scientist will collaborate closely with the Genetics and Category teams to ensure effective study execution and provide valuable insights.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct rigorous biological research and compile findings into comprehensive reports that yield actionable insights for product development and enhancement.
  • Foster innovation by engaging with industry professionals, sales teams, academic institutions, and growers to stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends.
  • Work in tandem with study sponsors and various departments, including marketing and regulatory affairs, to align project objectives and optimize resource utilization.
  • Facilitate facility tours and deliver presentations to showcase the effectiveness of our research initiatives to stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to biology specialists and technicians.
Candidate Profile:
  • Educational background: Master of Science is required; Ph.D. is preferred in a relevant biological discipline such as horticulture, genetics, or soil science.
  • Experience in horticulture-related fields, including controlled environment agriculture, greenhouse management, or hydroponics (Master's: 3-5 years; Ph.D.: 1-3 years).
  • Experience in cannabis research or with licensed producers is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with plant breeding, experimental design, and statistical analysis is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of practices in controlled environments and soilless cultivation methods.
  • Proven ability to design and implement research programs addressing specific commercial horticultural challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively influence decisions and drive progress.
  • A strong sense of scientific inquiry, personal motivation, and networking skills to discover innovative technologies and methodologies.
