Senior Drainage Engineer


Job Summary:

The City of Burnaby is seeking a highly skilled Senior Drainage Engineer to join our Engineering department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing design standards for drainage systems, conducting engineering studies, and overseeing the development of planned maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement design standards for drainage systems, including watercourses, culverts, ravines, and flood management features.
  • Conduct or direct engineering studies related to drainage, including inspections and monitoring of programs, and prepare comprehensive reports with recommendations.
  • Develop the capital program and budget for drainage, and oversee the development of planned maintenance programs.
  • Review applications and identify infrastructure required by development, and provide technical expertise to support internal and external queries or requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, including committees and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and develop Asset Management plans and programs across the Engineering Department, and provide direction and guidance to staff members.
  • Conduct investigations and administer discipline, and represent the department at grievance hearings and labour management meetings.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Engineering, and Professional Engineering designation (P. Eng).
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional engineering experience, with expertise in drainage systems and urban planning.
  • Ability to assign, supervise, and review the work of subordinates, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in various office and software applications related to work, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
