Student Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Student Support Specialist to join our team at the Ontario Ministry of Education. As a Student Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing supervision, guidance, and instruction to students who are blind and/or visually impaired in our student lodging program.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support and guidance to students who are blind and/or visually impaired, promoting their social, emotional, and developmental growth.
- Develop and implement customized programs to meet the unique needs of each student, utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Supervise and instruct students in a safe and secure environment, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with the Student Support Manager and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive and supportive learning environment.
- Post-secondary educational certificate and/or equivalent training, education, and working experience in a childcare-related field.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Defensive Driving.
- Experience working with students who are blind and/or visually impaired, with a demonstrated ability to facilitate effective individualized developmental and social/life skill programs.
- Knowledge of orientation and mobility needs of students who are visually impaired, as well as relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to assist with student transfers and willingness to work shifts.
