Job Title: Assistant Professor of Teaching in Chemical and Biological Engineering
Department: Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering | Faculty of Applied Science
Compensation Range: The anticipated salary for this role is between $110,000 and $130,000 CAD/year.
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching. Candidates must possess a PhD in Chemical and/or Biological Engineering or a closely related engineering field. Registration as a professional engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is either required or candidates must be eligible to register within five years of their appointment.
This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in a career path focused on excellence and innovation in teaching and educational leadership within a prestigious Chemical and Biological Engineering department. The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive role in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes within our accredited undergraduate programs.
The key responsibilities of this position include:
- Equipping undergraduate and graduate students with essential technical and leadership skills, integrity, and social responsibility through high-quality education.
- Driving internationally recognized technological advancements and sustainable solutions to meet global challenges through impactful research.
- Fostering an inclusive, safe, and collaborative academic community.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses across our three accredited undergraduate degree programs: chemical process engineering, chemical and biological engineering, and environmental engineering. A strong desire and capability to lead undergraduate and graduate laboratory courses in biochemical engineering and biotechnology is essential, including the development of innovative teaching methods that enhance experiential learning.
Engagement in educational leadership activities, such as curriculum development and the implementation of effective teaching practices that improve learning outcomes and career prospects for engineering students, is expected. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, educational leadership, and community service.
Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement detailing their teaching philosophy and interests, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. This may include course outlines, evaluations, and references.
The University of British Columbia is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment for all members of its community. We encourage applications from individuals belonging to groups that have been historically marginalized. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
