Black & McDonald's Ottawa team is growing. If you are an analytical and collaborative professional searching for the opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The Estimator is located in Ottawa, Ontario and reports directly to the Estimating Manager.

Estimators analyze costs and prepare work take-offs and estimates. The successful candidate will provide support to project operations with emphasis on estimating, reporting and monitoring progress and handling project changes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare detailed estimates of cost of materials, labor, and equipment for construction projects based on contract drawings/specifications, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  2. Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders.
  3. Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, tender hand-offs, project closings, and operational/sector meetings with various stakeholders – ie. senior estimators, operational staff, and purchasing – as required.
  4. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  5. Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  6. Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
  7. Update and maintain estimating databases.

Education Requirements

Post-secondary education in Engineering or Business/Commerce is required.

Work Experience Requirements

3-5 years' experience in the construction industry is required.

Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements

Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project) is required.
