About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Worker/Counsellor to join our team at BC Cancer in Kelowna, BC. As a key member of our Patient and Family Counselling team, you will provide psychosocial support to cancer patients and their families, working closely with our interdisciplinary cancer care team to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Screen, assess, and counsel patients and families concerning emotional and practical needs associated with their diagnosis, providing support and guidance to help them navigate the cancer journey.
  • Develop and lead group programs to meet the needs of patients and families, promoting a sense of community and connection.
  • Provide consultation to other disciplines and work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Identify patients' needs for services and make appropriate referrals, or develop alternate strategies for patient support, education, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in planning and development of educational activities, contributing to the growth and development of our team and the cancer care community.
  • Provide clinical guidance to students and volunteers as required, supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in and promote research projects, contributing to the advancement of cancer care and support.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a social sciences discipline relevant to the role, such as Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or Clinical Psychology, from a recognized program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience working in an interdisciplinary setting, with experience in individual, couple, family, and group work, program and community development, adjustment and grief counselling in a healthcare or oncology setting.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience in brief evidence-based therapy models, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systems Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, Supportive Therapy, Crisis Counselling, Group Therapy, and Resource Counselling.
  • Eligible for registration with a designated professional regulatory body.
