Your Role

We are seeking a Lead Cost Estimator with expertise in mining, mine development, and construction to enhance our expanding team within the Mining, Minerals, and Metals Business Line. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation and coordination of comprehensive multi-disciplinary cost estimates and construction timelines for clients.
  • Lead teams of estimators and schedulers, fostering a collaborative and productive atmosphere.
  • Mentor and support team members in developing their professional skills.
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, including managers, engineers, and procurement specialists, to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all deliverables.
  • Ensure timely and thorough development of multi-discipline cost estimates and construction schedules.
  • Work alongside senior estimators to refine cost estimation processes and schedules.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex estimating challenges.
  • Validate quantity takeoffs and construction metrics from design documents.
  • Compile and integrate information from various estimating disciplines into cohesive cost estimates.
  • Develop detailed work plans for estimating activities.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports outlining the basis for cost estimates.
  • Establish site-specific criteria for estimating, including productivity rates.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of construction documents and propose design enhancements.
  • Assist in procurement, change management, and claims evaluation.
  • Create logistics plans for construction activities.
  • Offer innovative solutions to estimating and construction challenges.
  • Serve as the primary contact for internal clients regarding cost estimation.
  • Guide junior and intermediate estimating personnel.
  • Continuously improve estimating procedures and tools.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of cost estimation, engineering design, and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in mining, mine contracting, shaft sinking, and both surface and underground construction.
  • Strong understanding of various contracting methods and their implications for estimating.
  • Familiarity with estimating and scheduling software, with a preference for InEight Estimate, Primavera P6, or MS Project.
  • Willingness to travel for site assessments and client interactions.
  • Experience collaborating with other estimators to create comprehensive project estimates.
  • Proven ability to manage and present cost estimation projects effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, utilizing professional judgment and creativity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships within teams.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in estimating, scheduling, and project controls.
  • Field experience in heavy civil, mining, or construction environments is preferred.

The role typically involves working in an office setting with occasional fieldwork, which may expose you to various weather conditions.
