Position Overview
The Tire Repair Technician is responsible for executing comprehensive tire maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of vehicles, including light trucks, industrial machinery, and heavy-duty equipment. This role involves working at designated maintenance facilities or on-site at various locations as necessary. The position is supervised by the Trades Coordinator (Fleet Mechanical).
Primary Responsibilities
- Efficiently remove and install tires, wheels, and rims on light and medium-duty trucks, heavy trucks, and industrial equipment.
- Conduct thorough inspections of tires and associated components to identify damage, diagnose issues, and recommend suitable repair methods or replacements.
- Assist in overseeing commercial tire services provided by external vendors, including tire recapping and specialized repairs.
- Perform routine repairs on punctured or leaking tires.
- Maintain and repair tools and equipment used in tire servicing and maintenance.
- Manage inventory levels by monitoring, ordering, and receiving necessary materials.
- Adhere to all safety regulations as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Undertake related tasks as required, which may include minor equipment repairs, parts delivery, and general maintenance duties.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Grade Twelve (12) and relevant training in tire repair and maintenance, coupled with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in tire servicing within an industrial or commercial setting.
- In-depth knowledge of tire repair procedures, tools, and safety practices.
- Familiarity with legal standards regarding tire wear and safety.
- Proven ability to operate equipment related to tire maintenance and repair.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating sound judgment.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service and maintaining effective working relationships.
Working Conditions
- A valid Class 1A driver's license is required. Completion of a mobile crane safety operation course may be necessary during the probation period.
- Flexibility to work shifts and in various mechanical functions beyond heavy equipment repair.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in diverse weather conditions.
