The Werklund School of Education invites applications for the position of Indigenous scholar in Education at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) or Associate Professor (With Tenure). The successful candidate will focus on leadership, policy, and governance, critically analyzing educational policies and advancing leadership practices that incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing.
This opportunity is exclusively available to qualified Indigenous scholars (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit). Candidates must provide verifiable evidence of their Indigenous identity.
The successful applicant will have the chance to establish and maintain a vibrant research program utilizing Indigenous methodologies and knowledge systems. They will be expected to secure competitive research funding and contribute to the well-being of Indigenous children and youth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising graduate students and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Demonstrating leadership in service, collaboration, and mentorship.
- Engaging with Indigenous communities and fostering strong relationships.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative network across the University of Calgary, including the UCalgary Circle of Advisors and the Circle of Indigenous Scholars, which supports Indigenous scholars in addressing community matters and fostering peer connections.
The Indigenous Strategy (ii' taa'poh'to'p) guides the university's commitment to transformation and reconciliation, ensuring that progress is monitored and the strategy evolves based on community feedback.
Applicants should possess a doctorate in education or a related field, a deep understanding of Indigenous communities, and a strong record of community engagement. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in K-12 education and a proven ability to secure research funding.
