We are currently seeking candidates with the necessary skills and qualifications for the role of Skate Shop Assistant and Facility Maintenance. This role will operate at Fuller Lake Arena on a casual basis. Reporting to the Recreation Programmer, the successful applicant will provide high-quality educational and recreational experiences in a safe and enjoyable environment for the public. Work schedules may include weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays, depending on the programs and activities available.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering skate lessons, overseeing ice patrol, managing skate shop operations, and ensuring program delivery and facility maintenance;
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with facility users and the general public;
  • Providing direct instruction and leadership for various program offerings;
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies necessary for programs and events;
  • Leading the operation and security of programs during assigned shifts;
  • Enforcing rules and regulations as required;
  • Performing additional duties as needed.

Occasional reassignment to other duties may be necessary.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities:

  1. Completion of Grade 10 education.
  2. Current Standard First Aid certification.
  3. Proficiency in ice skating, with personal skates and a CSA-approved helmet.
  4. Experience in delivering a variety of innovative recreational programs and events.
  5. Basic knowledge of and commitment to safety regulations and procedures relevant to arena operations.
  6. Ability to follow directions, manage competing priorities, and uphold facility standards.
  7. Understanding of building operations and skate shop management.
  8. Capability to work independently and under supervision.
  9. This position may involve physical demands; candidates must be able to perform all associated duties. A medical certificate confirming suitability for this role may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. BCRPA High-Five Quest 100 - Essential Child Development.
  2. Fundamental Movement Skills training.
