Essential Qualifications for a Material Handling Specialist at XPO Logistics, Inc.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Capable of performing basic arithmetic operations, with or without a calculator
- Willing to work various shifts based on fluctuating freight volumes, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in dock or warehouse settings within the transportation sector
- Proficiency in operating forklifts in a freight or less-than-truckload environment
- Background in loading and unloading trailers
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence
Overview of the Material Handling Specialist Role
Compensation, benefits, and additional information:
- Experienced material handlers can earn a starting wage of $28.82/hour
Daily Responsibilities:
- Efficiently sort, manage, load, and unload both palletized and non-palletized freight
- Utilize appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including pallet jacks and forklifts
- Secure freight within trailers using the necessary tools and supplies
- Operate in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to company safety protocols
- Employ mobile handheld devices to scan and monitor shipments
- Work in a loading dock environment that may not be climate-controlled for extended periods
Material Handling Specialists are expected to:
- Lift freight and other items of various shapes, sizes, and weights (frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally exceeding 70 lbs.)
- Safely walk and stand for prolonged periods on a loading dock that may be slippery and is not climate-controlled
- Reach (including overhead), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel as required
