Position Overview

The new Senior Policy Analyst within UBCM's Policy Team will act as the principal contact for all matters related to community economic development. This role encompasses a wide range of natural resource policy topics, including but not limited to: forestry, aquaculture, energy, mining, agriculture, tourism, technology, and the arts. Additionally, it involves strategies for community transition support, job training, and retraining initiatives. You will spearhead policy research and analysis on these economic development issues, engage with provincial, federal, non-governmental, and industry stakeholders on various policy matters, advocate for member policy directions, represent UBCM on external committees and working groups, and identify opportunities to enhance local economic development prospects for BC communities.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in federal, provincial, local government, or non-governmental sectors, focusing on policy research and analysis, stakeholder consultation, and preparing policy reports and presentations, with experience in a leadership or project management capacity.
  • A Master's degree in political science, public administration, business/economics, planning, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of natural resource policy and its implications for BC communities and their economic vitality, along with a general awareness of other economic factors that contribute to local economic development in BC.
  • Note: Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered for a different salary level.

Work Schedule

This position is structured as a 35-hour work week (1.0 FTE).

Compensation

The starting salary for this role is $95,843 annually, equating to $3,993 semi-monthly (2024 rates).
