Position Overview:
As a Tax Compliance Specialist, you play a vital role in the success of Scotiabank's Taxation Services division in Canada. Your contributions are essential in executing specific individual objectives, plans, and initiatives that align with the team's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure that all operations are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Engage proactively with clients and partners to provide comprehensive personal, estate, and trust tax preparation services, adhering to regulatory deadlines and service level agreements.
Identify tax issues that may impact clients and partners, delivering tailored tax solutions and strategies. Act as the primary liaison for clients, partners, and potential business opportunities.
Team Leadership:
Oversee and review all tax returns prepared by Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff to guarantee accuracy and completeness, thereby minimizing risk. Provide ongoing support, motivation, and technical coaching to the team, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement.
Conduct key tax preparation functions by handling the most complex tax returns, while understanding the Bank's risk appetite and culture in daily operations.
Operational Excellence:
Pursue effective and efficient operations within your area, ensuring adherence to business controls that meet obligations regarding operational risk, regulatory compliance, and conduct risk.
Foster an inclusive work environment and promote a high-performance culture. Bilingualism in English and French is preferred, especially for candidates from specific regions.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in a tax unit serving individuals, trusts, and corporations is essential. Proficiency in tax preparation software, MS Office, Salesforce, and the Broadridge Trust System is required.
