Position Summary

The Heavy Duty Mechanic for Ground Support Equipment is responsible for the maintenance and servicing of all Ground Service Equipment at the Swissport station, ensuring optimal performance. This role is crucial in providing safe and dependable equipment that complies with all local and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and demonstrate proficiency in preventive maintenance according to established schedules for all ground support equipment.
  • Respond to after-hours maintenance requests as deemed necessary by the GSE Manager.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostic evaluations of ground support equipment as needed.
  • Modify and overhaul power plants, drivetrains, braking systems, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Prepare and paint ground support equipment to meet Swissport standards as required.
  • Operate and maneuver all types of equipment, both motorized and non-motorized.
  • Remove malfunctioning ground support equipment from service, ensuring it is not returned until proper diagnosis and repairs are completed.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and incidents involving ground support equipment.
  • Procure parts and materials necessary for maintenance and repair of ground support equipment.
  • Utilize and demonstrate proper handling of tools and diagnostic equipment essential for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Complete all maintenance and repair documentation in accordance with carrier, station, airport authority, municipal, state, federal, and Swissport regulations.
  • Adhere to all security requirements set forth by federal, provincial, municipal, airport authority, and carrier regulations.
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle driver's license for both airside and non-airside operations.
  • Follow all safety protocols established by WCB, EPA, WHIMIS, and Swissport management.
  • Ensure the GSE shop and its equipment are kept clean and operational, reporting any deficiencies to management.
  • Refuel equipment as necessary, adhering to all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Engage professionally with Ramp management, customers, and staff as required.

Candidate Profile

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in GSE Maintenance.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a YXS D/A license.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as needed (morning, day, evening, weekends, etc.).
  • Certification in one of the following trades: Heavy Duty/Commercial or Automotive Mechanic License, maintained in good standing.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and French.
  • Willingness to travel for training or to assist other Swissport stations with GSE requirements as necessary.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, basic welding, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Transport Canada Security Clearance.
  • Possession of personal tools.
