Position Overview

We are in search of a Telecommunications Systems Engineer Trainee (EIT) or Junior Engineer who possesses a strong enthusiasm for designing telecommunications infrastructures within an Operational Technologies (OT) setting. The ideal candidate will participate in a diverse range of projects with several of CIMA Canada Inc's esteemed clients, delivering telecom system designs and network architectures that cater to their essential operational requirements. Our telecommunications division collaborates with various industrial and public sector clients, including energy, transportation, and carriers, on a wide array of wired and wireless networking solutions. We provide a flexible hybrid work model, allowing you to work from home as well as from one of our offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing telecom system designs and engineering documentation for projects:
  • Creating schematics and design diagrams,
  • Drafting project scopes, proposals, estimates, and budgets,
  • Preparing and reviewing engineering documents, specifications, and testing procedures.
Facilitating the creation of bill of materials and assisting with procurement processes, coordinating, staging, and planning installations and commissioning with clients and contractors. Traveling to sites and collaborating with internal teams and external contractors and clients. Addressing information requests from sites and completing project documentation, including record drawings, calculations, and project return data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent, along with an Engineer in Training (EIT) designation, or the capability to register as a Professional with EGBC.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in the design and implementation of wired and wireless telecom networks within an EPC/EPCM firm or client/owner.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in designing networks at OSI layers 1 to 4 for operation-critical applications.
  • Familiarity with various telecom systems and accessories, including:
  • Optical transport systems (DWDM, MPLS-TP, SONET/SDH),
  • Wireless transport systems (Microwave, Satellite),
  • LAN Switching / VLAN,
  • IP/MPLS,
  • Firewalling,
  • Telecom Power Systems.
Knowledge in the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Power utility specialized telecom systems: Tele-protection, Power Line Carrier (PLC), High Voltage Entrance (HVE),
  • Radio access systems (WiMAX, LTE, WiFi, LMR),
  • Control and Automation systems: Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), SCADA, IEC-61850,
  • IT/OT convergence.
The anticipated salary for this role ranges from $60,000 to $75,000, depending on the depth and diversity of the candidate's experience, training, skills, and internal equity. The position or associated salary may vary based on the candidate's profile.
