Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dietitian II, Renal to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide expert nutrition care to clients with renal insufficiency or failure, working closely with healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized nutrition plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments of clients, including chart reviews, client interviews, and collaboration with healthcare providers.
  • Determine diet requirements based on biochemical, metabolic, and anthropometric parameters, as well as subjective global assessment.
  • Develop and implement multiparameter renal diets, setting nutritional priorities for high-risk clients with multiple medical problems.
  • Monitor and evaluate client adherence and response to nutrition plans, making recommendations for nutrition interventions as needed.
  • Participate in medical rounds to review client nutrition needs and relevant nutrition support protocols.
  • Counsel and educate clients and their families on the rationale and mechanics of a multiparameter diet, considering social, emotional, cultural, and environmental factors.
  • Act as a resource to the interdisciplinary team and other healthcare providers on renal nutrition-related issues.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of nutrition management guidelines, education materials, and tools for the renal client population.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, collecting and submitting workload measurement data and reporting on effectiveness and variances to client care outcomes.
  • Participate in clinical research related to renal disease, collecting and analyzing data, evaluating information, and documenting findings.
  • Provide education and in-service sessions for program team members, other healthcare staff, and students, as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized Bachelor of Science degree program in Nutrition and successful completion of an approved dietetic internship program.
  • Two years' recent related clinical experience in general medicine/surgery in a large acute care facility, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current registration with the College of Dietitians of BC and eligibility for membership with the Dietitians of Canada.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong background knowledge in nutritional sciences, food preparation, and nutrient composition, pathophysiology of kidneys, and renal failure.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the etiology of renal disease, renal therapy practice/techniques, medication/nutrient interactions, and relevant metabolic changes in response to disease.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of current renal nutrient composition of food to individualize a multiparameter diet.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the psycho-social economic considerations of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
  • Demonstrated counselling skills to effect a change in eating behavior, and ability to establish rapport with clients and family members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others, including the ability to work in a team and client-focused environment.
  • Ability to plan, implement, organize, prioritize, and problem-solve.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including applicable software applications.
