Position Overview

Thales is seeking a Senior Systems Engineering Technologist to oversee the infrastructure of the Thales' National Digital Excellence Centre Canada (NDEC Canada), which includes the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) and the Cyber Range. The CSOC is tasked with identifying and preventing cyber security incidents through real-time monitoring and analysis of potential threats, while the Cyber Range offers a secure simulated environment for professionals and students to develop cyber skills and conduct security posture assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Infrastructure Management for the Cyber Range: Design, implement, and oversee network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and VPN. Configure and manage network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls. Collaborate with Thales Network and Security teams. Monitor network performance and resolve issues to ensure consistent connectivity. Implement and uphold network security protocols and policies.
  • Server Management for the CSOC and Cyber Range: Supervise the operation, maintenance, and security of servers. Manage server hardware, including installation, configuration, and upgrades. Ensure effective server backups and disaster recovery protocols are in place and tested. Monitor server performance and optimize as needed. Maintain organization and inventory in the server room. Support the integration of various technologies into the Cyber Range infrastructure.
  • General IT Management: Develop and maintain documentation for IT infrastructure and procedures. Manage IT projects, including planning, execution, and delivery. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for procurement and support. Provide technical assistance and guidance to staff as necessary. Stay informed about the latest technology trends and best practices in IT management.
  • Collaboration with Customers and Partners on Cyber Range Activities: Lead technical workshops to assist with risk assessment activities (IT, OT, IoT). Coordinate and support customer project teams, site engineers, and management with project deliverables. Facilitate live Cyber training exercises and simulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in IT management, focusing on server and network infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on experience in building, troubleshooting, integrating, configuring, and testing cabling, network, and electronic systems.
  • Experience in server and network monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of server hardware and operating systems (Windows and Linux), experience with virtualization systems (VMware, Hyper-V), and familiarity with cloud computing platforms (Google, AWS, Azure).

Special Position Requirements

Physical: This role will involve work in the server room, including cabling and hardware installation.

Schedule: 40 hours per week. Overtime may be required based on demand and project schedules. There is also potential for on-call support for infrastructure-related service incidents and adherence to internal management escalation procedures when necessary.
