Position Overview
Reporting to the DDC Coach, the Forklift Operator is tasked with overseeing the receiving and loading processes while maintaining cleanliness and equipment upkeep. Personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and safety boots may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a propane or diesel counterbalanced forklift and/or reach truck
- Verify prepared loads for accuracy and completeness against transfer requests
- Conduct inspections of the forklift and its components in line with RONA standards and legal requirements
- Unload delivery trucks and organize products in designated storage areas
- Handle products as necessary
- Deliver customer service in accordance with SMART principles for in-store pickups
- Engage in departmental maintenance activities
- Adhere to company policies and procedures regarding health and safety and loss prevention (e.g., ensuring loads are secure for transport)
- Assist in order preparation and truck loading
- Assemble orders by identifying products from transfer requests, locating materials, counting quantities, and securing loads (primarily loader responsibilities)
- Occasionally operate the forklift to prepare transfers, transport materials, and load/unload vehicles
- Complete the forklift inspection documentation
- Support general warehouse and yard maintenance by clearing debris and organizing materials
- Return unused materials from vehicles to stock as directed
- Record the number of cartons received on packing slips
- Inspect for visible damage
- Thoroughly inspect damaged cartons and refuse acceptance of damaged goods
- Document necessary adjustments in the computer system
- Perform any other related tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Certification for forklift operation and a valid driver's license
- Ability to engage in continuous physical labor, including lifting up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds)
- Willingness to work outdoors 80 to 100% of the time, with tolerance for extreme temperatures, adverse weather, dust, and noise
- Manual dexterity for operating a forklift
- Possession of a RONA forklift license
- Capability to recognize different species and grades of materials
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Team-oriented and cooperative attitude
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing situations
- Strong organizational skills for managing multiple deliveries
- Attention to detail when processing paperwork and counting inventory
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Good concentration skills, especially while operating forklifts in a busy warehouse environment
