Role Overview:
Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Business Services, the Senior Manager of Financial Services is a seasoned and proactive leader tasked with the transformation and delivery of exceptional customer-oriented services. The Financial Services division encompasses various departments, including Accounting, Budget, Payroll, Procurement, and Risk Services. The successful candidate will utilize advanced interpersonal and communication skills to lead a team of business process specialists, addressing the needs of a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. This role requires the application of subject matter expertise to identify and implement strategic enhancements aligned with the Board's multi-year strategic plan while ensuring adherence to federal and provincial regulations and Ministry of Education standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the efficient management and coordination of the Accounting, Budget, Payroll, Procurement, and Risk Services departments.
- Establish and nurture strong collaborative relationships with all stakeholders and Board partners.
- Promote a culture of high performance, professional development, and continuous improvement within the team of business process specialists.
- Act as the Board's controller, providing senior-level strategic guidance and analysis related to financial activities, internal controls, and necessary financial reporting.
- Facilitate the development and approval process of the Board's annual budget.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Business Services to provide leadership and expertise to all Board financial and audit committees.
- Enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of current operational methods by identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Lead technology and change management initiatives essential for executing process enhancements.
Qualifications:
- A degree or post-secondary education in finance, business administration, or a related field.
- A professional accounting designation in good standing (CA, CMA, CGA).
- Business Supervisory Officer qualifications are considered an asset.
- A minimum of ten years of leadership experience in financial management within a publicly funded sector, preferably in K-12 education.
- Strong change management capabilities with a proven ability to motivate, engage, and empower team members.
- Demonstrated skills in strategic planning, organization, analysis, problem-solving, research, negotiation, and facilitation.
- Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders, including trustees, senior management, school administrators, employee representatives, local municipalities, neighboring school boards, and the Ministry of Education.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the complex interconnections within the Board's organization and the role of Financial Services in supporting exemplary instructional programs and services.
