Your Role:

The Electrical Engineer will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for executing capital and operational projects, major maintenance tasks, and supporting the Operations and Maintenance divisions.

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Electrical Engineer will oversee all phases of project development, design, implementation, and closure in accordance with the Heartland Project and Maintenance Management Process (PPMP) and Management of Change (MOC) protocols. This role also entails providing consistent, comprehensive, and professional support to the station's operations and maintenance teams in areas such as troubleshooting, root cause analysis, maintenance practices, outage planning and execution, operational guidelines, and the development and implementation of engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the condition of generators, transformers, and balance of plant electrical equipment.
  • Manage the lifecycle of station electrical equipment, including developing and maintaining a strategy document for critical assets.
  • Assist in the lifecycle management of control systems and instrumentation, including the creation and upkeep of a strategy document for essential equipment.
  • Develop contingency plans for critical assets.
  • Lead major maintenance activities, inspections, and testing of significant electrical equipment.
  • Oversee the development and ownership of applicable Alberta Reliability Standards.
  • Manage the site commodity metering process.
  • Oversee project management for major electrical initiatives.
  • Update electrical designs and drawings as necessary.
  • Maintain critical engineering files and documentation.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to maintenance staff.
  • Support other operational units and facilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution and registration as a Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA or another provincial regulatory body.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in thermal or gas-fired power generation or a comparable field; candidates with more extensive experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with power station operations, maintenance, development, construction, and commissioning is advantageous.
  • Experience with generators, electrical protection systems, protection relays, switchgear, power system analysis, turbine control systems, DCS, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of working independently and eager to learn and grow.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective team player with excellent interpersonal skills, leading by example.
  • Willingness to seek feedback to enhance the quality of deliverables and committed to developing new expertise.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based software.
  • Project management training and experience is a plus.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.

Work Environment:

This position is based at our Muskeg River Cogeneration Facility.
