Job Overview:

In alignment with the directives established by the National Fund Development team, the Regional Fund Development Leader is responsible for spearheading and executing fundraising initiatives within their designated area, ensuring consistency with the VON Canada brand and the overarching national fund development strategy. This role entails generating financial support from individuals, corporations, and foundations, while also providing guidance and oversight to Fund Development Coordinators to achieve departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Designs and implements a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy, focusing on mid-level donors and planned giving, in collaboration with the national framework.
  2. Establishes both short-term and long-term objectives for donor retention and acquisition through a centralized direct response program.
  3. Identifies, assesses, and nurtures potential donors; maintains and updates a prospect pipeline.
  4. Creates local solicitation, stewardship, and recognition strategies for donors and prospects in alignment with national guidelines.
  5. Utilizes a data management system (Raiser's Edge) to ensure accurate and timely data entry and reporting of fundraising outcomes.
  6. Mentors, supports, and trains Fund Development Coordinators to effectively manage fundraising initiatives.
  7. Actively participates as a member of the site management team.
  8. Guides the Community Corporation Board and relevant committees in developing and monitoring annual fundraising plans.
  9. Collaborates with the Engagement Lead to prepare annual budgets for the Community Corporation and oversees monthly financial statements.
  10. Partners with the Engagement Lead to provide leadership to the Community Corporation and relevant standing committees.
  11. Engages with VON Canada Fund Development staff and collaborates on various projects.
  12. Conducts research on potential donors and prepares proposals.
  13. Coordinates communication strategies related to donor engagement.
  14. Facilitates employee giving campaigns, educational sessions, and manages fundraising events.
  15. Acts as the primary contact for all donors and prospects.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  1. Advocates for the VON strategy and its role as an integrated home and community care provider to all stakeholders.
  2. Ensures alignment of community opportunities with the VON strategic plan.
  3. Provides leadership in navigating the complexities of both unionized and non-unionized environments.
  4. Coaches and motivates staff, fostering a positive workplace culture.
  5. Promotes a Lean management approach to ensure consistent management practices.
  6. Facilitates mechanisms for staff to receive organizational updates and provide feedback.
  7. Ensures all Districts have a plan for performance development and learning for all staff.
  8. Encourages common practices for orientation, learning, and recognition of staff achievements.
  9. Leads initiatives to promote a safe and healthy workplace, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  10. Encourages the use of technology for knowledge management.

Relationships:

  1. Develops strong internal relationships across departments to facilitate employee giving campaigns and manage fundraising events.
  2. Builds partnerships with VON staff by providing consultation and support within the fund development function.
  3. Collaborates with external partners, including Community Corporation boards and granting bodies, on regional or national initiatives.

Qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary degree in a relevant field.
  2. CFRE designation is an asset.
  3. Minimum of five years of experience in fundraising management, including proficiency with Blackbaud products and experience in leading fundraising and marketing campaigns.
  4. Experience in organizations with both national and local community dynamics.
  5. Experience in the healthcare or community support services sector is preferred.
  6. Knowledge of fundraising processes, best practices, and current industry trends.
  7. Familiarity with CRA requirements for registered charities.

Skills:

  1. Proficient in using a fundraising database (preferably Raiser's Edge).
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  4. Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities.
  5. Demonstrated ability to organize daily tasks with minimal supervision, focused on achieving objectives.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills with a talent for relationship building.
  7. Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.
  8. Adaptable to change and able to facilitate it effectively.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Must have access to reliable transportation and possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  2. A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required.
  3. A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be necessary.
  4. Availability for flexible working hours is essential.
  5. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.

Working Conditions:

This position demands a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, involving physical activities such as lifting, carrying, bending, and other movements that require good body mechanics. The role requires walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs throughout the day, with some tasks necessitating fine motor skills.
