Position Overview
Exell Power Services, LTD is on the lookout for a driven and enthusiastic individual to become part of our workforce as an Electrical Technician Apprentice. This position is perfect for those who are keen to learn and demonstrate a solid work ethic. The Electrical Technician Apprentice will collaborate closely with our skilled team to cultivate practical abilities and acquire invaluable hands-on experience. Guided by Leadership and Mentors, the Apprentice will receive and execute work tasks from management and internal clients. These tasks are essential for supporting field and shop operations and fulfilling customer requests.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and operate within your skill level in both field service and shop settings.
- Utilize hands-on electrical expertise for the installation, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, redesign, refurbishment, retrofitting, and/or repair of electrical systems.
- Employ hands-on mechanical skills including welding, painting, fitting, cutting, bolting, detailed print interpretation, measuring, and drawing modifications.
- Safely operate mobile equipment such as vehicles, trailers, bucket trucks, aerial work platforms, forklifts, and other rental machinery.
- Conduct incoming visual inspections for electrical and mechanical irregularities.
- Foster strong client relationships through the quality and volume of work delivered.
- Exhibit a continuous effort to enhance your skills and company operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline workflows, and collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure a high-quality and seamless operation.
- Communicate effectively with PM, Manager, or other designated personnel for efficient problem resolution and transfer of relevant information regarding ongoing and completed jobs.
- Collaborate with team members to successfully complete work assignments. Gather information from team members and/or leadership regarding customer requirements and product specifications and use this information to effectively complete tasks.
- Maintain a tidy and organized workspace and perform routine shop organization and cleanup as necessary to ensure a safe and orderly work environment.
- Adhere to all company, local, and regulatory safety protocols, as well as company best practices and policies.
- Be available to work nights and weekends as required by business needs.
- Complete test reports in accordance with Company and Customer standards and timelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- High School diploma and currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program, with at least 2 years of relevant field experience.
- Familiarity with various safety regulations such as WCB, Provincial, and OSHA safety standards.
- Understanding of industry standards including NETA, OSHA, IEEE, CSA, and NFPA.
- Demonstrated electrical/mechanical skills and/or experience with various types of low and high voltage equipment. Experience with Industrial and Utility electrical systems, installation of power distribution equipment, and large switchgear is preferred.
- Able to effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Proficient computer skills for specialized software, data entry, information retrieval, and/or report generation.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; able to follow directions—both written and verbal, read work orders and/or specifications as assigned; work in a team environment and communicate with team members, various departments, and/or Customers as business needs dictate.
- Customer-focused; capable of meeting deadlines, managing multiple projects, and delivering quality work.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
Additional Information
Travel: 25-50%
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs daily, crawl, climb, stand for extended periods, and work in less-than-ideal conditions.
