Overview

Role Purpose

The Audit Department serves as the 3rd Line of Defense, playing a crucial role in the internal control framework of the Bank. Its primary objective is to deliver independent and objective evaluations regarding the design and effectiveness of internal controls aimed at risk mitigation, alongside advisory services intended to enhance the Bank's operations.

The selected candidate will collaborate closely with Senior Managers and Directors in the Global Wealth and Insurance Audit sectors, as well as colleagues within the Central data analytics team. Responsibilities will include executing analytical tasks required for audits across Asset Management, Wealth Distribution, and Insurance business lines, along with control/support functions and other relevant areas.

The ideal applicant will possess a solid understanding of Wealth Business operations, along with technical expertise in analytics and data acquisition. They should be capable of providing data, executing data analytics, and developing continuous monitoring Management Information System (MIS) dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analytics

  • Engage in data analysis projects, executing tasks for various business audit teams.
  • Collaborate with business lines and stakeholders to enhance Internal Audit’s and the Bank’s data analysis methodologies and practices.
  • Identify, acquire, and utilize large datasets to generate additional business value through the development of new models and algorithms that facilitate more efficient audits and help management recognize emerging risks.
  • Innovate solutions and create products that deliver business value and enhance customer experience.
  • Design and improve visual dashboards to support data-driven Continuous Monitoring within Audit.
  • Handle large datasets and utilize distributed computing tools for analysis, data mining, and modeling.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation outlining data sources, models, algorithms utilized, and results achieved.
  • Support and contribute to Data Analytics innovation initiatives.

Audit Planning

  • In collaboration with the Business audit team, participate in audit planning to identify analytical requirements.

Auditing and Execution

  • Assess the efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, and reliability of internal controls concerning defined control requirements by conducting audits of assigned processes, units, or projects.
  • Independently execute, manage, and document assigned activities in line with departmental standards, ensuring that the extent of testing is adequate to support the audit opinion.

Problem Identification

  • Identify and evaluate the materiality of control deficiencies, ensuring comprehensive fact-gathering and understanding for complex projects.
  • Determine the root causes of control deficiencies and offer practical recommendations for mitigation.
  • Monitor assigned issues in the Issue Tracking Database to ensure timely resolution.

Reporting and Communication

  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with key auditees and business line management.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in data analytics related to Asset Management and Wealth Distribution is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the operations and regulatory frameworks of the Wealth and Insurance sectors in Canada.
  • A degree in Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in statistical tools such as R or Python.
  • Strong SQL skills for querying relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, DB2, MySQL).
  • Experience in extracting and working with structured and unstructured data across various formats and systems, including data mining. Familiarity with the Enterprise Data Lake or Enterprise Data Warehouse is preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience in Machine Learning techniques (e.g., clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and advanced statistical analysis techniques is an asset.
  • Some experience with visualization tools like Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) to engage with staff and management at various levels. Experience in presenting data analytics/MIS results is beneficial.
  • A highly motivated self-starter with a track record of producing high-quality data deliverables, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
