Job Title: Planning & Design Technologist

FortisBC is seeking a skilled Planning & Design Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in the installation of main extensions and services, ensuring all approvals are obtained and foreign utilities are noted.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the installation of main extensions and services, preparing work orders and service orders as needed.
  • Stake service and main extensions, ensuring proper standards are maintained and installations are assigned offsets.
  • Maintain a continuous record of the status of each work order and service order.
  • Liaise with other utilities and municipalities to overcome problems resulting from the installation of mains and services.
  • Provide advice on the location of mains and services to other utilities and municipalities, and assist them as required.
  • Prepare documentation and data required for road crossings, rail crossings, and easements, and follow up to ensure approvals are obtained.
  • Document and follow up on construction orders, work orders, etc., to ensure all approvals are obtained and as-builts are received when projects are completed.
  • Maintain plan record files for all work completed.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License.
  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary technology diploma in an appropriate discipline, or acceptable equivalent.
  • Certified (or eligible for certification) at the technologist level by the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia.
  • Two (2) years directly related, relevant experience.
  • Experience performing civil surveying is an asset.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including familiarity with applications software in use in the department, including SAP, CAD, GIS, scheduling applications, CAFE, and the MS Office suite of applications.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of gas distribution systems and installation practices, utilization and installation codes.
  • Knowledge of design and layout of municipal services, including water, sewer, telephone, and power.
  • Cost estimating.

This position has 5 automatic wage increases that occur on 12-month service intervals:

  • Starting wage: $41.21.
  • Step 1 - after 12 months: $42.82.
  • Step 2 - after 24 months: $44.45.
  • Step 3 - after 36 months: $46.09.
  • Step 4 - after 48 months: $47.78.
  • Step 5 - after 60 months: $49.38.
