Unit Overview

C4 is a specialized inpatient unit dedicated to the care of patients with malignant hematological conditions. The primary treatment modalities include intensive chemotherapy, transfusion support, antibiotic therapy for immunosuppression, and stem cell transplantation.

Position Overview

As an integral member of the healthcare team, the Physiotherapist is responsible for coordinating, assessing, and evaluating patient care while delivering physiotherapy services tailored to the diverse needs of patients on C4 - Hematology. This role involves collaboration with interdisciplinary team members and community organizations to ensure comprehensive care and effective discharge planning for patients and their families.

The Physiotherapist adheres to the professional standards and guidelines set forth by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) and complies with Hamilton Health Sciences Policies and Procedures. Utilizing a patient-centered care approach, the Physiotherapist integrates the best available evidence into clinical practice.

Additionally, the Physiotherapist engages in clinical education for physiotherapy students and other healthcare professionals through mentorship and teaching activities. Beyond direct patient care, the Physiotherapist actively participates in professional practice and program committees that enhance patient care, clinical practice, education, and research, as sanctioned by the Clinical Manager in consultation with the Chief of Physiotherapy Practice.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday; Day shifts

Qualifications

1. Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
2. Proven leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
3. Demonstrated ability to function effectively within an interdisciplinary collaborative practice team
4. Self-motivated, independent practitioner with strong critical thinking and clinical reasoning capabilities
5. Proficient in prioritizing and managing caseloads efficiently while employing effective time management strategies to enhance patient access to physiotherapy services
6. Current knowledge and experience in managing oncology patients is advantageous
7. Current certification in CPR from the Heart and Stroke Foundation or equivalent is preferred

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination must be submitted to Employee Health Services.
