The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a skilled Contract Specialist to join our team at the Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This is a 5x2 schedule, Monday to Friday.

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

About the Role:

The Contract Specialist will be responsible for contract activities, reporting to the Superintendent, Materials Management. Key responsibilities include:

  • Practicing safe work behaviors and supporting the Copper Mountain Mine safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings and initiatives.
  • Providing reports and attending meetings to update on current activities.
  • Coordinating, developing, and issuing RFPs, obtaining competitive pricing information from vendors and suppliers, negotiating terms and conditions, and coordinating bidders' meetings when necessary.
  • Generating reports, including commercial evaluations, budget reports, and coordinating with Document Control to ensure documentation is properly maintained and filed.
  • Preparing and managing Request for Proposal documentation, Purchase Orders, and Contracts in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Working with suppliers to reduce costs by identifying opportunities and process improvements.
  • Maintaining strong communications with end users/requestors to ensure needs are being met in a timely manner.
  • Contributing actively to managing vendor selection, vendor performance, and continuous improvement of both the contractual relationship and departmental processes.
  • Coordinating and liaising with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices, ensuring invoice match approved rates, addressing discrepancies, and mediating disputes between A/P and vendors.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a technical discipline or a bachelor's degree in business or a closely related field with equivalent experience in technical environments.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of relevant work experience in a Contracts/Procurement role in Mining or similar industrial environment.
  • Experience with Document Control systems, such as SharePoint, Aconex, or Kahua.
  • Experience with contract law and the ability to draft and amend contract clauses confidently and appropriately.
  • Experience with ERP systems and experience with IBM Maximo and SAP are considered an asset.
  • Proficient user of Google Workspace and Adobe/Nitro/PDF software.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 or 7 driver's license and have access to personal transportation.

Working Conditions:

The Contract Specialist will work in a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings, frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online, and rare exposure to working in adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold.

Rate of Pay:

$75,000.00 to $90,000.00 per annum.
