Job Title: Volunteers, Respite and Renew Caregiver Support

Job Summary:

We are seeking compassionate and caring individuals to join our team as Volunteers, Respite and Renew Caregiver Support. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in addressing social isolation and loneliness among seniors through social interaction and gentle activities. You will be matched with a senior client and engage in meaningful conversations, relieving caregivers temporarily and providing respite and relief.

Responsibilities:
  • Visit senior clients weekly for 3 hours, same day and time, between 9am-4pm, weekdays
  • Engage in meaningful conversations with seniors, relieving caregivers temporarily
  • Participate in gentle activities such as games, puzzles, and cards when appropriate
  • Be sensitive to clients with cognitive impairment, hearing and vision needs, and clients at high risk for falls
  • Focus on the goals and needs of the client within boundaries, policies, and procedures
  • Complete and submit a weekly log
Requirements:
  • Experience supporting older adults/seniors
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral and listening skills
  • Friendly and caring attitude, empathy, compassion, and patience
  • Experience and sensitivity working with culturally diverse individuals and families
  • Previous volunteer experience an asset
  • Understanding of the aging process, impact of aging on individuals and families, and an asset
  • Understanding of dementia an asset
  • Background in gerontology, social work, social services, and knowledge of community resources an asset
