Job Overview

The Chief of Fire Services is tasked with providing strategic oversight and leadership for a comprehensive and multifaceted fire department. This role encompasses the overall management, guidance, and operational execution of fire services within the jurisdiction. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating with municipal leadership to ensure exemplary practices in fire and emergency response services.
  2. Formulating, executing, and overseeing a detailed emergency management strategy through effective planning, budgeting, and operational efficiency.
  3. Demonstrating a profound understanding of labor relations and union negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Possessing a post-secondary degree in Public or Business Administration alongside Fire Officer IV certification or equivalent extensive training and experience in fire services.
  2. Having substantial senior management experience within the fire service sector.
  3. Completing Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) training through relevant emergency management authorities.
  4. Exhibiting comprehensive knowledge of emergency management principles, including risk assessment and emergency operations.
  5. Demonstrating extensive understanding of applicable legislation, fire protection practices, and the ability to interpret relevant laws.
  6. Applying strategic thinking skills with awareness of financial and operational dynamics in municipal fire service management.
  7. Showcasing proven experience in budget management, program development, and project management.
  8. Excelling in problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills across various organizational levels.
  9. Proficient in Records Management Systems and standard office software applications.
  10. Being available to respond to emergency situations and attend necessary meetings as required.
  11. Undergoing a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check as mandated for this position.
