Position Overview:

The Intermediate Accountant role, reporting to the Accounting Manager, is an excellent opportunity for a CPA student to further their professional development in accounting. This position is vital in supporting the financial functions of the organization, including maintaining precise financial records, assisting in financial reporting, and ensuring adherence to accounting standards. The successful candidate will possess a strong grasp of accounting principles, experience with general ledger operations, and the capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, investment reports, and other necessary documentation.
    • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in all financial reporting.
  • General Ledger Management:
    • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank accounts, receivables, and payables.
    • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
    • Conduct daily accounting tasks, including journal entry preparation and review.
  • Internal Controls:
    • Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of internal controls to guarantee the reliability of financial data.
    • Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Tax Compliance:
    • Support the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
    • Coordinate with external tax advisors as necessary for tax return preparation.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Mentor junior staff by providing guidance and support.
    • Engage in special projects and initiatives aimed at process improvement.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Current enrollment as a CPA student with a minimum of three years of general accounting experience.
  • Proficient in financial software and possess intermediate Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with Canadian accounting principles and a willingness to deepen knowledge.
  • Experience with financial instruments or the insurance sector is advantageous.
  • Fluency in English with strong verbal and written communication skills is essential.
  • Fluency in French is a plus, with proven communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
