Job Summary

The Assistant Project Manager is a key member of the RailWorks Corporation team, responsible for overseeing the management and execution of various contracts related to track, infrastructure, and right-of-way activities in Western Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of contract administration, including fulfilling project requirements, promoting a safety culture, conducting quality control and assurance, and providing internal reports to the management team.
  • Assess and prepare scope of work required to successfully fulfill contract requirements.
  • Prepare and verify budget and revenue estimates based on the scope of work and specifications.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules, including critical path calculation, resource allocation, and delay analysis.
  • Prepare and verify work plans and methodologies, including obtaining necessary permits, organizing resources, developing logistics, and coordinating tasks between different stakeholders.
  • Manage project activities based on budgetary and contract requirements.
  • Assist in procuring material, equipment, and services, and organizing required training for reporting personnel.
  • Prepare and submit supporting reports and documents as per project requirements.
  • Attend internal meetings, meetings with clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of on-site employees and subcontractors.
  • Develop all required documentation for the submission of project-related invoices.
  • Investigate and report all issues arising during all stages of the project.
  • Prepare and submit RFIs, change order requests, and other respective documentation related to contract change management.
  • Prepare and analyze cost, budget, production, and other reports as requested by the management team.
  • Monitor and provide guidance to project coordinators and other staff.
  • Actively engage and promote a safety culture.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in a related field of study, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, contract management, or project management.
  • Minimum of three years of related project or contract management experience in heavy construction or railroad environments.
  • Proficiency with common business and construction software, such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Hard Dollar, or JD Edwards.
  • Previous supervisory or management position is a strong asset.
  • P.Eng designation or equivalent is an asset.
  • PMP designation or equivalent is an asset.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in project accounting, project controls (cost, schedule, change management, etc.), procurement, contract administration, safety, and quality control.
Working Conditions
  • Occasional weekend or night work may be required.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions may be required.
  • Majority of the field work is on and around live track (trains).
  • Work may be in urban, rural, or isolated areas. Accommodations and transportation will be provided, if required.
