Regional Sustainability Specialist

The Regional Sustainability Specialist will be an integral member of the QESH team, closely collaborating with the Environmental team at DP World.
In this capacity, you will contribute to the formulation and management of sustainability initiatives aimed at minimizing environmental impacts. You will coordinate efforts to enhance environmental performance in design and construction practices, as well as other sustainability activities. Your role will involve recommending and facilitating necessary changes and improvements.
You will ensure compliance with environmental regulations, climate data management, governance, and reporting, meeting the expectations of governmental bodies, clients, and DP World, thereby supporting informed decision-making within the region.
This position can be based in any European country where DP World operates. Please note that this role requires international travel (50%) and flexibility for extended periods away from home.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and maintain environmental management systems and procedures, ensuring adherence to legal, customer, and company standards.
- Assist in the collection, calculation, analysis, and presentation of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory (Scope 1, 2, and 3) in collaboration with Group HSE.
- Work with regional teams to enhance data quality, particularly for Scope 3 emissions.
- Support the digitalization of carbon footprint tracking.
- Ensure customer requirements for annual reporting of environmental data are met to a high standard, including CDP and NQC.
- Coordinate with procurement regarding annual renewable electricity needs for clients.
- Provide carbon expertise for ongoing projects, tracking progress towards DP World’s carbon neutrality objectives.
Foster a collaborative environment within the QEHS regional teams that promotes effective communication and flexibility.
Participate in and manage Integrated Management Systems audits for ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
Design and implement best practice environmental procedures, ensuring regional understanding and compliance.
Develop and maintain processes for environmental emergency preparedness and response.
Deliver specialized guidance for environmental induction training for all staff.
Collaborate with operational teams to enhance environmental performance and mitigate operational impacts.
Conduct internal environmental audits, workplace inspections, and environmental tours as required.
Oversee environmental legal compliance audits, including record-keeping and follow-up actions.
Maintain a corporate register for environmental legal compliance in the region and communicate updates on environmental legislation.
Coordinate investigations of environmental incidents and accidents, ensuring thorough record-keeping of findings and follow-up actions.
Lead environmental meetings, presenting data, documenting actions, and tracking progress.
Monitor and report on environmental performance at country and site levels to local management and external stakeholders, such as CDP.
Manage carbon collection processes and carbon neutrality initiatives within the region.
Oversee regional ISO 14001 and 50001 processes, ensuring timely completion of environmental reporting for customers and DP World, including CDP, NQC, and specific GHG emissions reports.
Key Qualifications:- University degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in sustainability data management and reporting, preferably in a corporate setting.
- Fluent in English, with additional languages, particularly German, considered an advantage.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Environmental Management or related specialist roles.
- Strong competencies in carbon accounting, especially Scope 3 emissions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in data management using Excel.
- Ability to analyze data at both granular and high levels.
- Experience in the logistics sector is preferred.
Highly desirable: Experience with ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 implementation, as well as carbon accounting expertise.
