Position Overview
Under the supervision of a Journeyman Electrician, the Electrician Apprentice plays a crucial role in assisting with the upkeep, enhancement, and installation of electrical systems in industrial environments. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in the high voltage sector, where the apprentice will support inspections of electrical systems, components, and equipment to detect issues and ensure adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the setup of electrical wiring, conduits, cable trays, and fixtures across various industrial facilities and infrastructure projects, while learning and adhering to safety protocols.
- Support the installation of electrical panels, switchgear, control systems, and distribution boards under the mentorship of seasoned Electricians, gaining insights into the regulation and distribution of electrical power.
- Participate in the installation of electrical equipment, including motors, generators, transformers, and lighting systems, as part of construction projects or facility enhancements, while closely following instructions.
- Contribute to the establishment of power distribution networks by assisting with tasks such as cable laying, transformer installation, and connecting power sources to distribution points, under the guidance of Journeyman Electricians.
- Help ensure proper grounding and bonding of electrical systems to mitigate electrical hazards and maintain safety standards in industrial settings, while learning the significance of safety measures.
- Assist Journeyman Electricians with routine maintenance tasks, troubleshooting electrical problems, and aiding in the repair of malfunctioning equipment or systems to guarantee continuous operation.
- Familiarize yourself with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and assist in ensuring compliance during installation and maintenance tasks.
- Gain understanding of lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety protocols, while actively participating in implementing safety measures in the workplace.
- Assist in the installation of structural steel and buried utilities, while observing and learning the correct techniques for the safe operation of construction equipment.
- Learn from Journeyman Electricians about effective leadership, supervision, and mentorship for Electrical Apprentices, while developing skills in understanding and resolving technical challenges.
- Strictly adhere to Rising Edge Group's Health and Safety Manual and industry safety regulations, while actively contributing to a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Work schedules may vary, including options such as 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, or 10-hour shifts. Overtime is compensated at time and a half after 10 hours in a day and after 40 hours in a week.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an Electrical or PSE trade program.
- Familiarity with the Electrical Utility Code (E.U.C Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety regulations relevant to the Electrician role.
- Possession of a valid Provincial Class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office, and computer-based testing equipment is advantageous.
- Must meet pre-access Drug & Alcohol testing criteria.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights.
