We are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Technical Artist to assist in the development and support of our projects. This position will also involve the exploration and advancement of new technologies for upcoming projects, as well as enhancing existing tools and systems. This is a full-time, in-office role.
WHAT WE DO
- We design, create, and maintain intricate deformation systems for characters, creatures, and vehicles that animate our 3D assets.
- We enhance rigging workflows, including exploring improvements for facial rigging and animation solutions.
- We collaborate with Technical Artists to refine and enhance our proprietary animation tools.
- We innovate dynamic art workflows through rigging, secondary motion setups, and the evolution of our tools and processes – from asset creation to visualization in the engine.
- We engage with other departments, such as Tools and Code teams, to optimize our authoring workflows and animation/graphics systems in real-time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Construct, test, and maintain body and facial rigs, skinning, and secondary motion setups for a variety of 3D assets.
- Utilize proprietary systems to create and export constraints, custom deformers, and secondary motion to the game engine.
- Collaborate closely with animators, automation, and other Technical Artists to develop tools and enhance workflows that yield optimal results from our production processes.
- Support the facial animation pipeline and be actively involved in face asset creation from motion capture.
- Organize, document, and maintain libraries of rig modules that can be utilized by a large team of riggers across multiple projects.
- Assist in the development of production tools to support new workflows and future technologies.
- Stay informed about the latest technologies and research in the field to ensure our dynamic art visuals remain at the forefront of motion and deformation innovation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant experience in the gaming industry as a Character Rigger, Technical Animator, or a similar role.
- A demo reel and online portfolio showcasing exceptional skills in creating motion controls for animation, complex deformation, and skinning of characters and creatures.
SKILLS
- Strong Python programming abilities and a solid foundation in 3D mathematics.
- Experience in developing tools for Rigging and Animation.
- Familiarity with source control software (e.g., Perforce, Git).
- Excellent communication, self-management, and organizational skills.
PLUSES
Please note that these are desirable skills and are not mandatory for application.
- Professional experience in developing pipelines and creating tools is highly beneficial.
- Experience programming C++ plugins for Motionbuilder, Maya, 3DS Max, or similar DCC applications.
- Familiarity with other game engines (e.g., Unreal/Unity or proprietary technologies).
- Knowledge of current facial capture techniques, FACS poses, facial blend shape rigs, and feature detection.
- Experience with solver-based facial animation packages (e.g., Dynamixyz or Faceware).
- Professional background as an Artist or Animator in the gaming sector.
