Position Overview:

Arcadis Canada is expanding its Environmental Team and is looking for an Environmental Field Technician to join our ranks. This role offers the flexibility to be based in one of our Canadian offices in Ontario, with a requirement for approximately 85% travel to various sites within the region, along with opportunities for travel across Canada.

This position is part of the Global Resilience Business Area, where our focus is on safeguarding our natural environment and water resources while ensuring sustainable development for future generations. As we face the challenges posed by climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss, our commitment to environmental protection becomes increasingly crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Environmental Field Technician, your primary duties will include coordinating and executing tasks assigned by Project Managers related to environmental project implementation, which encompasses:

  1. Conducting environmental site assessments
  2. Performing risk assessments
  3. Managing remediation projects

Your responsibilities will involve site visits and inspections, overseeing drilling and remediation operations, documenting field observations, collecting soil and groundwater samples, and preparing comprehensive environmental reports.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Thorough understanding of field protocols for soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling, along with managing drilling activities and subcontractors.
  2. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks.
  3. Accurate interpretation of environmental data.
  4. Comparing sample results against relevant guidelines and standards.
  5. Preparing detailed reports that document the findings of investigation programs.
  6. Independently supervising contractors such as drillers and utility locators.
Qualifications & Experience:

A Technical Diploma or a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, earth sciences, or a related discipline is required.

A minimum of 2 years of experience in soil, groundwater, or vapor sampling, as well as overseeing drilling operations and subcontractor management, is preferred.

Essential Skills:
  1. Proven ability to supervise and mentor junior staff, promoting their professional development.
  2. Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
  3. Strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:

Possession of CTech or CET credentials, or eligibility for P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation is considered advantageous.
